Viva Las Vegas

A Pin-Up dream comes true

Question: How can I pay homage to six unforgettable days in Las Vegas?

Answer: Write it all down!

So, here we go – a blogpost about my visit at the legendary Viva Las Vegas 2016.

Day 1 – Arrival

I don’t know if it was the relaxant my friend gave me before departure or if I just got used to flying, but I didn’t feel any fear, but pure joy about the start of a great adventure. This was my second time traveling to the US and I can say that being there doesn’t feel like a vacation to me. It rather feels like coming home.

Last year, I won a trip to Las Vegas in a Pin-Up contest at the Route 66 Aarburg Festival. I was free to choose the date for my trip and of course I had to pick one particular weekend in April – the Viva Las Vegas weekend.

After our eleven-hour flight, my friend Djamila and I decided to go for a walk at the Las Vegas Strip, because who needs sleep anyway? :D

Las Vegas was stunning! I’ve rarely seen a city so full of contrasts between being glamourous and kind of shabby, but interesting and compelling at the same time.

My ‘Las Vegas Strip’ Outfit:

Top: Lauren Top (Pinup Couture)

Skirt: The Oblong Box Shop

I was happy to finally wear a summery outfit, since the weather in Germany has been horribly cold at the time.

Day 2 – Pool Party and Pin-Up Girls

I wanted my journey to begin with a bang! So, I decided to go on a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. I got up at 4 am in the morning, which wasn’t a problem thanks to my huge jetlag. The flight was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I highly recommend.

Heli trio

My first Viva Las Vegas experience started with an exclusive Pre-Party at Rockin’ Ronny Weiser’s house. Robin Preston and his crew from London invited us to and Ronny and his family welcomed us with open arms. I was amazed by all the beautifully dressed people gathering by the pool – I felt like I’ve been time traveling to a Tiki Party in the fifties.

The best part for me was the traditional jam-session with some of the Viva bands. One band stood out particularly: Lance Lipinsky & The Lovers. The striking performance of the young artists made every cell in my body want to dance. I remember feeling truly happy and free from worries in this moment.

My Pool Party Outfit:

Dress: Natasha Leopard Dress (Pinup Courture)

Hair orchids: Sophisticated Lady Hair Flowers (I’m a big fan of hair accessories, especially flowers)

A big thank you goes to Djamila, who isn’t just one of my best friends, but a great stylist (lucky me!). Check out her work here (click me).

Day 3 – Meeting friends and heroes.

I can’t describe the feeling when I opened the big doors of The Orleans Hotel for the first time. The Las Vegas casinos are unique and fancy as there are, but imagine thousands of people in there, dressed up in vintage outfits and having the time of their lives. In the distance, I could hear the Rock’n’Roll music playing and fans cheering. My heart was full of joy – I arrived in paradise.

Before I could even sip on my first drink, Robin asked me for a quick photoshoot at the pool. The pool area was quite empty at this time, so we took our chances. Robin knows how to play with the available light of the midday sun. We took some wonderful photos and afterwards, Djamila and I walked around the event.

My Tiki Pool Outfit:

Tiki swimsuit: Küstenluder

Earrings: Glitter Paradise. Aren’t they amazing? My friend Charlotte from France made them for me, among many other pieces and every one matched with my outfits. I was incredibly honored to wear her jewelry, especially because she was an official sponsor of the Viva Las Vegas’ Pin-Up Contest.

The first people I saw when we lined up for our wristbands were Jason Kamimura and Jenny Rieu. I followed both their social media for a long time and I couldn’t wait to see them in person. They were lovely and took some time for taking pictures with me. And as I thought, this couldn’t get any better, I spotted Angelique Noir. She’s one of my Pin-Up Girl heroes, on the inside and the outside.

Meet 1

But there is more: I also met Pin-Up Doll Ashley Marie at the bar. She is such a sweetheart and she even remembered meeting me two years ago at the Ink’n’Iron. I was speechless and kind of starstruck.

Please ignore the poor quality of the photos. Most of them were taken with our mobile phone cameras by our shaking hands. And don’t get me started on the lighting in The Orleans. It was bad – just bad.

In the afternoon, I organized a photoshoot with one of the best Pin-Up photographers worldwide – Mitzi Valenzuela. I was really nervous when I met her at the El Cortez Hotel. I adore her work and being a part of it was a dream come true. It was great to work with her and I can’t wait for the final results of our collaboration. And even after all this time I’ve been back in Germany, I still find tiny glitter particles from this photoshoot in my clothes. :D

Day 4 – Dreaming of Hollywood

It was the most exciting day for me. I booked a photo session with the artist behind Silver & Soul – Charles Torrealba. His work is unique, creative and outstanding. When he told me about the opportunity to work with him in Las Vegas, I was on fire. The fact that his amazing wife Miss Rockabilly Ruby was doing the hairstyling for this shoot caused many joyful dances in my bedroom before (and after) the big day. The third member of this awesome team was Erika Reno. She did my makeup and made me feel like a movie star. I enjoyed every minute with the talented trio and again, I have to thank Djamila for taking many pictures behind the scenes and for assisting during the photoshoot.

Day 5 – Beauties in Pink and a Kick-ass Car Show

The car show was definitely one of my highlights at the Viva Las Vegas. My eyes were twinkling and my heart was beating fast as we strolled through the lines of classic cars.

Again, I had the chance to meet a lot of great people. First, I ran into James and Jenny again and I had the change to snap a quick photo on the way to the car show.

Of course, Robin and I took some photos with the cars and on top of the Budweiser Truck next to the main stage. The view was first-class and the bands were rocking. A big thank you to the Budweiser crew!

There was another great happening at the Piano Bar, where the girls of The Pink Collar Life organized a glamorous ball. Ashlyn Coco and Tara MiSioux are a dream team of vintage goddesses. On their blog, they celebrate the vintage fashion and lifestyle. Furthermore, they are a part of Susana Vestige’s new book Kittens and Kulture.

Another book I can recommend is Shannon Brooke’s GIRLS. I always liked the analog touch of her photos. Moreover, she knows exactly how to photograph women. And she’s a very cool person too. She welcomed us at her booth and started chatting and taking photos with us.

Day 6 – Downtown Dames and Dirndl Dancing

On the last day, I went to Downtown Las Vegas together with Joslyn and Michael from Little Skull Photography. We wanted to explore the lost places in the area in order to capture a more abandoned vibe of the desert city. We took some amazing photos, including some cool old-school polaroids.

When I look back at these six days in Vegas, I notice how many awesome experiences I made, how many great people and talented artists I met and worked with and how much fun I had at the event. I want to thank everyone who accompanied me on my adventure and I really hope to get the opportunity to come back some day. I had the time of my life!

Mein wahrgewordener Pin-Up Traum

Antwort: Einen Blogpost schreiben.

Also, los!

Tag 1 – Ankunft & Abendprogramm

Tag 2 – Pool Party & Pin-Up Girls

Haarreif – Antia : Die Hutmacherin
